Cheetah Conservation Awareness Program

At African Game Lodge, we have 6 resident cheetahs. Guests may join a morning or afternoon tour to visit the cheetahs and learn about our conservation project and what is being done to ensure that Cheetahs still roam our plains in South Africa. Learn about the fascinating adaptations of the Cheetah physiology which makes him the fastest animal on earth, and experience for yourself, the charismatic nature of the cheetah. At African Game Lodge, you will learn about the different meta-populations of Cheetahs in South Africa.
The tour starts with a visit to an adult pair of cheetahs, Khulu (Great) and Thanda (Beloved), who are being prepared for transfer to a section of the game reserve. These cheetahs are ambassadors for the free-roaming cheetahs still left in South Africa, of which there are only approximately 1000 left. Learn about the fascinating co-ordinated work being done by Game Reserves all over South Africa to maintain a healthy meta-population of self-sufficient cheetahs. These are truly the only wild cheetahs left now in South Africa.
Then you will have the privilege to meet our captive bred cheetahs Duma (Thunder), Vukela (Wild), Thula (Quiet) and Shaka (named after the great Zulu Warrior) who live in large, spacious, enclosures. Here you will learn more about the specialised hunting techniques of the cheetah, interesting facts and information, and the opportunity to photograph these magnificent cats in close proximity. Please note that a No Touch policy is enforced during this program, however, you may take as many photographs as you like.
Unfortunately for safety reasons, guests need to be 14 years and older, or taller than 1.5meters to partake in the Cheetah Awareness Program.
