Mountain Biking
African Game Lodge is perfect for Mountain Biking enthusiasts. Vast open tracks of land, spectacular scenery and good clean air. You can follow our game or birding trails and spend the day exploring African Game Lodge. Picnic packs are available, and in the afternoon, enjoy a refreshing swim at the lodge.
Apart from cycling on the reserve, mountain biking enthusiasts can cycle to Montagu and along the Route 62 towards Barrydale. The area is a very popular destination for mountain biking offering spectacular scenery and great routes.
The following is a selection of the trails suitable for mountain biking available on the reserve:
Slagkloof Trail - You can do part of this 4x4 route on mountain bike and enjoy some magnificent scenery high up in the mountains.
Wilderness Trail - A great mountain biking route taking you past magnificent rock formations, various herds of game and into the remote Wilderness area through to the Bushmen's paintings and cave overhangs.
Gatskraal Trail - This trail includes some spectacular scenery and a bit of off-the-beaten-track mountain biking and you are sure to see some game on your return via the Red House Trail.
Red House Trail - A lovely mild ride for those who like to be out on their bike and enjoy nature. Good for game viewing. (Mind the Aardvark holes in the track)
Montagu by bike - A lovely run through to Montagu along the Driekuilshoogte Pad. And after a relaxing cup of coffee at one of the local coffee shops, we can arrange a collection for you, or take a leisurely return cycle back to the reserve. (Especially popular on a Saturday morning, combine it with a visit to the local Flea market in Montagu)

Where to stay and What to do : African Game Lodge is a private nature reserve outside Montagu in South Africa. We offer affordable accommodation on a self-catering, B&B or Full Board basis , and outdoor nature activities such as game viewing, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, biking, trail running and birding. As an added attraction, we have a cheetah awareness program and many species of game and wildlife on our game reserve. We are situated along Route 62 in the Cape Winelands, Western Cape. |
