Camping

 

If you enjoy camping, we have a basic camp-site at African Game Lodge with six shaded sites where you can pitch your tent and sleep right out in nature.

This is the Little Karoo, its arid, its dry, but it has its own harsh beauty.  Trees have a hard time surviving as they provide ideal scratching posts for our eland, so we have created shade for you. There is an area designated for camper-vans or roof-top tent vehicles who cannot fit under the shaded area.

Each designated camping site has a shaded area big enough to park your car and pitch your tent and a built up braai. The allocation of space between the tents is spacious.

 

 

The Ablution Block has separate ablutions for ladies and gents. Each section has two toilets, two showers with hot/cold water and two basins with hot/cold water. Its clean, functional, basic and serviced each day.  Dishwashing facilities include several washing up areas with hot and cold water.

At night under the starry skies, you will hear the little critters scuffling outside your tent, and in the morning, take a walk around the camp-site to see the spoor of many creatures who passed through silently during the night. During the day, the reserve is yours to explore. The nearby riverbed has fascinating rocks, fossils and trace fossils and is alive with birds, and in some places there is water to take a dip. Take a leisurely hike or mountain bike ride, join a scheduled guided hike, book for a nature drive or do your own nature drive if you have a high clearance vehicle.

Where to stay and What to do : African Game Lodge is a private nature reserve outside Montagu in South Africa. We offer affordable accommodation on a self-catering, B&B or Full Board basis , and outdoor nature activities such as game viewing,  hiking, cycling, mountain biking, biking, trail running and birding. As an added attraction, we have a cheetah awareness program and many species of game and wildlife on our game reserve. We are situated along Route 62 in the Cape Winelands, Western Cape.
